Students research the impact of a micro-hydro System in the rural areas

The action was held within the Renewable Electricity Generation project in South America (REGSA) and had the participation of Brazilian and foreign scholars in the feasibility study of viable renewable electricity generation projects.

Students of International Relations, Unisul Business School and from the program of Portuguese language and Brazilian Culture for Foreigners participated in the research focused on "viability and social impact of installing a micro hydro power plant", linked to the project of the Consortium of Renewable Generation South America (REGSA) in Taquaras, in the Municipality of Rancho Queimado. The young researchers Unisul were received in Rancho Queimado by the Mayor, Mr. Cesar Merio Goedert.

The research group REGSA / Unisul selected the Basic School Roberto Schütz, located in the community of Taquaras to receive the pilot project that will provide a micro hydroelectric renewable and clean energy for all the needs of the school.

The Roundtable "REGSA 2012": Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Sustainability, one activity from the Academic Week at Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, filled the University Auditorium, with more than 150 participants. The debaters and panelists were Eng. Mario Benevides, from Tractebel Energia, Professor Drª. Lucia Dallagnelo, Secretary for Economic and Sustainable Development, from the Government of Santa Catarina, Rívea Medri Borges and Diego Sousa, representing the Civil Society Catarinense Committee of Rio +20. The roundtable was organized by the Director of the REGSA project in Brazil: Professor Dr. José Baltazar Salgueirinho Osório de Andrade Guerra.

REGSA and UNISUL organized a debate about United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development 2012 (RIO+20)

Sustainability and renewable energy are issues that are in constant discussion, but still generate doubts among people. After all, in which areas applies to sustainability? What is the impact of Renewable Energies on the environment? What kind of research is being developed in these areas? These and other issues related to Sustainability and to Rio+20 Conference were addressed, on May 31, in UNISUL by a panel of researchers and experts, that represented the Universities, the Government and the Market. In this event had participated more than 350 people that discussed with Latin American authorities and executives of the energy market, the "Future that we Want" and topics related to sustainability.

Research Project Consortium REGSA / UNISUL elected the City of Rancho Queimado for the prototype installation of Micro-Hydropower

The research project of the Consortium REGSA / UNISUL has as one of its objectives a pilot module in which a community or region will get support in developing and implementing a viable project to generate electricity through renewable and clean sources.

After careful study of the community and region, the research group REGSA / UNISUL for the pilot decided to elect the Basic School Robert Schütz, located in Taquaras in the town of "Rancho Queimado". In a partnership between the Community School and the City of "Rancho Queimado" there will be installed from the results of applied research REGSA.

It has been a month since the symposium "World Symposium on Sustainable Development at Universities (WSSD-U-2012)" in Rio de Janeiro about sustainability at universities.

REGSA showcased during Hamburg Latin America DayUnder the patronage of Mayor Olaf Scholz of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, the Latin American business association (LAV e.V.), a Germany-wide operating business association representing decision-makers from the trade, logistics, finance and law sector, organized the Latin America Day in Hamburg with more than 400 decision-makers taking part in the event.
